HAPPY MAVIS STAPLES DAY!

Wednesday, November 19th, 2014

She is still taking us there, and Auditorium Theatre is where it’s at tonight… the gathering of so many musical greats, coming together to celebrate the 75th birthday – and moreso the beautiful soul that is Mavis Staples.   It will be an unforgettable night, fitting for this inimitable Chicago treasure!

WHO’S GONNA BE THERE WITH MAVIS???

Emmylou Harris, Gregg Allman, Bonnie Raitt, Win Butler & Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire, Jeff & Spencer Tweedy, Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’, Aaron Neville, Glen Hansard, Ryan Bingham, Eric Church, Buddy Miller, Patty Griffin, Otis Clay, Michael McDonald, Grace Potter, Marty Stuart… and Widespread Panic!

She has so many fans… and has shared the stage with many. Most legendary was her performance of “The Weight” with the Band on Thanksgiving Day, 1976 (seen in Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz”), but we’ve seen her bring joy and spirit to recent duets with Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, North Mississippi Allstars, Neko Case, Wilco and Jeff Tweedy.

Mavis grew up singing on the South Side in the 1940’s, and continues to make relevant, meaningful music today.  She does what she feels, and she takes you there with her.  Don’t miss this musical experience!
